Type of events
Once again inaugurating the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, this competition, consisting of 15 special timed events, is reasserting its desire to reinstate the basic values which made the Monte-Carlo Rally a legendary event.
Two new items for the 2010 edition : a super-special classification event held over 8 km will determine the order of the official start on January 19th in Valence : the possibility of participating offered to amateur teams driving series GTs (Porsche, Ferrari, etc.).
Elegance vintage car rally...
It all began back in 1911, at the height of the rivalry between two renowned seaside resorts : Nice and Monte-Carlo.
The first held its "Carnival" which brought a well-heeled clientele to its casinos. Monaco then decided to organise a car rally in the same spirit as Italy’s famous "convegni ciclisti", with departure-points in various towns all over Europe and competitors all converging on Monaco.
The event was to be held in January to show that the climate in the Principality was exceptionally mild at this time of year.
Two men are now considered to have been the rally’s "creators" : Gabriel Vialon and Antony Noghes.
The Monte-Carlo SBM resort financed the operation, which only brought 23 competitors to the starting-line in its first year. The following year, the number of entrants quadrupled : the Monte-Carlo Rally was on its way !
